Hi...
These are some screenshots of the new Channel I. The idea behind this has been adding interactive features to it like Online Poll, Shoutbox, Active/Recent Threads on Thinktank, Jukebox etc...
Also another feature is small snippets from other applications like Notice Board, BuySell etc...

FTP umask : Default permissions of files uploaded using FTP

Problem: Although the directory had the required permissions, but when files were uploaded using ftp they had permissions rw-------. So could not be downloaded from browser("others").

Solution: Edit /etc/vsftpd.conf (Ubuntu....others may have different location for this conf file). Make umask 022 from default value of 077.

Hey Junta,
It will be inspirational to know that some of your seniors hae started up a new venture Bankaro on social spam filtering. Just as a matter of fact Lalit, one of the co-fouders, was also an IMG member though for a short time.

Btw, I started a blog On System Design that you guys can go through and do leave your comments.

IMG launches new products...

For all those who missed the mail from Bansi to phattebaaz group,

JUKEBOX - Music server has been launched by the Director on April 10th 2007. It's good for the beginning, but as of now has some serious problems(read challenges) to be solved. I'll post screen-shots after a while.
SAMPARK ( Alumni Portal) - Launched by Director on April 20th 2007. Very good design, implementation and look-and-feel. Kudos to alumni team (Sonal, Tarun, Sankalp, Ankit and Vatsal)
New notice board- The ol' notice board had quite a few problems, so our lovely Luv embarked on revamping it all and made it such that there would no such thing again, ever. Great work! As usual, screen-shots to follow.
Yaadein - Slam CD is launched.
TBLS Online- "Online tbls is now a reality ,we have transfered the application on library servers n will be workin from next semester." right from Bansi's mail.
New Website - It's in progress, very well towards the finishing line.This time around, we are making sure that whole of the website is database driven, so that any future design changes will be smooth. Mathew and Abhishek have done very good work of database design and getting our own home-made CMS a reality. Further, all the departments have their own themes, no more monotonous feeling. It will all be over, for sure, by the end of this semester. Kind of a mission.
Lectures and Tutorials - Online lectures and tutorials portal has been launched this semester, thanks to a couple of late night efforts by Badaya.
Students Homepage(2.0) - New design with much more authority to users with facility to upload their own websites, now that we have got hold of server space. To remind you, previously all that students do could was just fill up information through forms. Now everyone can make their own designs and can upload them directly. All this is possible because of some very good work by our own Mayank and Puneet.

I think we shd also share our new projects, which are either completed or are in pipeline.
The new products which are on the verge of launching are:
1. Alumni Portal
2. TBLS Online
3. Music Server
4. Online Faculty Recruitment and Faculty Response
5. Cartoon Strips
6. Lectures & Tutorials (ya I know... still!!!!)

Projects that are in pipeline:
1. New wiki insti website
2. Placement Online Company Login
3. Student Home Pages File Manager, so that students can upload their own files.

For info of the seniors, we have recruited our first year.

Ok ! I must say a good start. Wiki-type website of IMG is an excellent idea. I think it will be good to make a page for each project and the person who started the project would be able to write about it the best :).

The objective of this blog is not only informing ourselves where we are and what we are up to, but also to bridge that missing link between the group back at Roorkee and the legendary 'IMG alumus'. We will soon send the invitations to all the seniors and then it would help us in pursuing our glorious vision and keeping track of our present. The blog's objective is different from what the group phattebaaz pursues, and slightly different from the wiki-type website vivek jain and I have thought of previously. Though that will be the ultimate dream, of having a wiki-type website through which information and knowledge flows smoothly among all the 'elite' members of IMG, this should be the beginning. A small attempt to justify the reason... Happy Blogging ! PS : Thanks Maddy

A Good Initiative

Let me dedicate this first meaningful Post to Vinu Papa (after the first meaningless but mandatory Hello World post), who has started this initiative.
